Alexandra Rose Raisman Bio

Alexandra Rose Raisman (born May 25, 1994) is a retired American artistic gymnast, and a two-time Olympian. She was captain of the 2012 "Fierce Five", and"Fierce Five," and the 2016 "Final Five,"" U.S. women’s Olympic gymnastics team. In the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, she received a gold medal at the team competition with teammate Gabby Douglas the sole Americans who have won back-to-back team gold medals. Raisman also won silver medals for individual all-around, as well as for the floor exercise. Raisman also took home silver medals in the individual all-around , as well as in floor exercise. She is also the two-time champion of the national championships of floor exercise (2012,2015) and the 2012 champion national of balance beam, and a five-time medalist at the national championships for all around (silver in 2016, silver in 2011, 2012 (2012), and in the year 2015). Inducted into The International Jewish Sports Hall of Fame in 2013. Raisman was the daughter of Lynn Faber, the former gymnast from high school and Rick Raisman, on May 25, 1994, in Needham. She is the mother of three children, Madison, Chloe and Brett. Raisman is Jewish and has said, "I take a lot of satisfaction in being able not only represent the U.S.A as well as the Jewish community across the world. Raisman began gymnastics at age 18 months. She credits her first love of the sport to the "Magnificent Seven", a U.S. women's gymnastics team which took home a gold medal at the 1996 Summer Olympics. She was a student at Exxcel Gymnastics and Climbing until the level 8. Then she joined Brestyan's American Gymnastics Club with coaches Mihai and Silvia Brestyan. Raisman was a graduate of Needham High School in 2012 following her senior year with online classes while training to compete in the Olympics.
