DuVernay was a CBS News intern during the O.J. Simpson trial. DuVernay remembers being given the task of watching the home and looking through the trash of one of members of juries. As a result of her tasks she was dissatisfied with journalism, and shifted into the publicity business. DuVernay began her professional career as a junior assistant to publicity in a tiny film studio shortly after she graduated from the college. The DuVernay Agency is her first PR agency. Her agency launched numerous promotional and lifestyle networks which include Urban Beauty Collective and Urban Eye.
